at Lake Union Park

THURSDAYS, 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM – NOV. 11th – DEC. 23rd!
Steamship Virginia V at Lake Union Park

The October Farmboat Floating Market debut was a big success. Many people wondered down to the docks at Lake Union Park to see what Farmboat was all about–-classic boats, local foods, folk music and a chance to learn about local farms and maritime heritage. With the chilly winds of winter nearly upon us, organizers of Farmboat have decided to continue the market indoors for November and December aboard the historic steamship “Virginia V’ moored at Lake Union Park.

Maritime Folk Music Adding Character to Floating Markets

Maritime Folk Music at Farmboat Floating Market

Maritime folk music singer Chris Roe performed last week at the Farmboat Lake Union Park Floating Market with accompaniments by David Perasso. Her charismatic voice carried the sounds of ancient mariners and their stories of the sea. The casual dockside setting with the old boats in the background and cargo on the dock made for an inviting presentation to entertain and teach both young and old about local maritime heritage.

Sea Fare: Butter Cake With Pears

There were all sorts of amazing goods for sale at this week’s market, but for me the stars of the show were the pears. Pears season is short and sweet, and now is exactly the right time to pick some up. Pears are the perfect fall fruit, resting somewhere between the heady, ephemeral sweetness of summer peach and the hardy crispness of a winter apple. They are delicious in all sorts of things, but my favorite way to eat them – besides straight out of the bin – is in a deceptively simple, surprisingly delicious butter cake.

Farmboat Oatmeal – This Could Save Your Life
